Grand Tourer Register Run to White Gum Farm

Sunday 25th August 2024

All club members are welcome to join with the Grand Tourer Register for car run on Sunday 25th August when we will travel from Midland through very picturesque winter countryside to White Gum Farm which is situated to the southeast of York.  White Gum farm is a little hidden gem that we have not ventured to previously, it covers over 300 acres and has a caravan park and camping ground, a swimming hole called Lake Kimberley, walking trails and its own airstrip where pilot training is conducted and where some unique aircraft are located.  Also on the farm is the Lake Kimberley Bar and Grill where we will enjoy lunch together.

We will meet at the Midland Dome café located at 21 Cale Street Midland at 9.00am for coffee, ample parking is available and then at 9.45am depart the Dome to allow our Jaguars to clear their throats on the lovely run to White Gum Farm.

I need to make you aware that there is 8 to 9 kilometers of reasonably good dirt road as we approach the farm which is fine when taken at a slower speed.  I will visit the farm again two weeks before our run and check the road condition before our event, there are two ways to the farm, and I will select the best way at that time.

On arrival we will have lunch and following that be given a brief talk on the history of the farm and then for those interested have a look at some of the unique aircraft located a short walk away.  The ladies may prefer to have a coffee and a talk whilst the men look at the aircraft in the hangers which includes a Mig 21 under restoration and a ‘nine tents’ scale airworthy Spitfire.  For those with walking difficulty we will arrange golf cart transport across to the hangers.

Five Gyro helicopters also operate from the airstrip where flight instruction and joy flights are available.  I have made arrangements for 15- or 30-minute joy flights if you would like the thrill of experiencing a gyro copter, I have booked a 15-minute flight for myself! Please let me know beforehand if you are interested.

Click on White Gum Farm to view what the venue has to offer plus the lunch menu.

I am Looking forward to having Club members from all Registers join with us for what, I am shore, will be a very pleasant Sunday run and a unique experience.
